Windmill Point Marina Receives Clean Marina Designation
By Janet Krenn
Windmill Point Marina received Clean Marina designation on June 26, 2011. The marina, which has 96 slips, is located in White Stone, VA, the western side of the Chesapeake Bay.
The Clean Marina designation has been a long time coming for Windmill Point. In December 2010, the Marina had completed many requirements, but a change in management delayed the award.

“The folks at Windmill Point have done a lot to obtain Clean Marina status, but the key to a successful Clean Marina is continued commitment,” says Anne Smith, Marina Specialist and coordinator of the Virginia Clean Marina Program at Virginia Institute of Marine Science. “It’s clear to me that the new harbor master is enthusiastic about the program; so we are happy to award a Clean Marina designation to Windmill Point.”
Harbor Master David Dudley says staying committed to the Clean Marina program was an easy decision. “We want to stay competitive, and maintaining Clean Marina status is one way to do that,” says Dudley. “It’s a great trade mark to have.”
In addition to it’s 96 slips, many of which are for transient boaters, Windmill Point Marina offers dining in the on-site Tiki Bar. During the summer, visitors can see live music on Saturday evenings or dance the night away on Wednesdays.
Virginia Institute of Marina Science and Virginia Sea Grant are proud partners of the Virginia Clean Marina Program, which recognizes marinas that voluntarily take measures to prevent or reduce pollution at their facility. There are currently 70 Clean Marinas in Virginia.
